San Juan River Access Fee Increased Despite Public Opposition

Public Support? Who Needs That?

BLM’s Monticello Utah office drastically increased fees for river trip permits on the San Juan River from Bluff to Clay Hills in 2013, despite overwhelmingly negative public comments. The Utah Recreation Resource Advisory Committee approved the increase unanimously without reading a single one of the comments. One of the last remaining family-friendly rivers in the west has become unaffordable for many families.

Documents related to this proposal are posted below.

The BLM published a “business plan” regarding their fee proposal for a drastic increase in access fees for the San Juan River.

All of the public comments submitted were obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and were overwhelmingly opposed to the proposal. Too bad. It had already been approved and has now been implemented. Here’s the summary of all comments.
